Interiors + Spaces
Interiors + Spaces designed + styled by Emily Baker
Breathing With Plants
Bringing potted plants into your space gives you new life as a plant parent and cleanses your air. I spent a long stint as a horticulturist in Seattle, Washington, as a landscape designer and working at the Volunteer Park Conservatory, tending to rare orchids in a greenhouse, before honing my skills at art direction and set decoration. Plants are my first language. Let me help you learn the way of the green thumb!

Intentional Spaces Speak
Add your favorite textiles, pieces of nature, and handmade vessels to your communal space to share stories new and old.
Going Inward
My love of inhabiting comfortable, yet current spaces, eventually turned to obsession with collecting and decoration, then spilled over into developing my earthy-chic taste and style with an abundance of healthy, happy plant life and objects that soothe my soul, like non-toxic incense, remembered bits from travels, special stones, and natural lighting.
A Room of One's Own
I had the luck of styling the interiors and getting a peek inside the Kamm-Brower home, in Glassell Park, Los Angeles for Fashion designer Jesse Kamm in the Kinfolk Home interiors book. It’s so important for an artist to have a dedicated space to create, get inspired, and make a mess in, at home.
Design Is Everywhere
I love to fill rooms with things I find at estate and thrift sales and on the side of the road. It’s important to me to find earth friendly and sustainable alternatives to over-purchasing items. I blend furnishings and bold textiles with found driftwood, crystals, plant life and unusual handmade pieces I pick up along the way.

Working With What You Have
I love to build on the existing elements of a space with pieces from its surroundings, especially from outdoors. I learned to use a mix of vintage, well-loved and found objects like old pieces of metal, beach stones, branches, or remnants of an abandoned beehive to decorate my boutique, Sword+ Fern when I was just starting out and budget was low. (Portland, Oregon, 2008-2014.) Handmade furnishings complement the modern-honors-the-past vibe.
A Tiny Universe All Your Own
At it's simplest, raw nature & modern heirlooms play primary roles in my space design. Clients and friends sometimes refer to my design style as "nature meets future". Keeping it all organized in a modern small space kitchen with interesting furniture can be the best adventure!
Simple Rituals
Our bathing area is the place to end and begin the day. A clean and uncluttered space can do wonders to unlock the inspired parts of our subconscious, and bathe in the brilliance of the Self.
Objects With Spirit
Ceramic vases, crystals, marble, wood, silk, porcelain, linen. Bring sacred materials into your space to center your connection to Earth.
Sword+Fern Shop + Studio, Portland, Oregon, 2008-2014
Sword+Fern Retail Space-A brick and mortar shop focused on curating the craft of local and undiscovered artists. The tiny retail/studio space of my own line of sustainable jewelry, handmade from recycled metals and vintage findings. Photographed in 2013 by Anja Charbonneau, of Broccoli Magazine.
Worlds Underfoot
I hand painted this retail space floor with angular details in complementary neutral hues to invite an alchemic feel as the customers walked in, creating an atmosphere of calm and unusual beauty.
Home Styling For A Music Genius
Part of my job as a stylist is choosing the right florals, objects, and textiles for a photo shoot. We brought it all together for photographing Red Hot Chili Peppers drummer, Chad Smith’s personal home in Malibu. Designed by Mariah O’brien interiors and shot by Marcia Prentice for Angeleno magazine, April 2018.
Gathering Together
Finding the right dining table gives your home the comfort and security of sharing memorable meals for years to come.

Minimalist Coziness Helps You Grow Your Inner Garden
Create a meditative vibe throughout your home to welcome calm day and night.
Casual Luxe
Spaces I design tend to feel comfortable and lived-in, amongst lots of functional, extraordinary curiosities that feel familiar yet modern, clean and intentional, without looking over-styled.
Peaceful Home Studio
A Los Angeles jewelry design space.
Set design for Kinfolk magazine, 2016.
When I style high-end sets for camera, I get to travel far distances visually inside spectacular prop houses that encompass a spectrum of eras and design thought. I fell deeper in love with unique and visionary object and furniture designers over the years spent treasure hunting for the right mirror, picture frame, or settee for the shot.
